Doomlings 2027 National Championship

The Doomlings 2027 National Championship qualifiers are starting soon! 20+ qualifying Doomlings tournaments wil be held across the U.S. from now until Gen Con in 2027. Winners of the qualifying tournaments will each receive: a trophy, a $25 Doomlings store credit, and a 4-day pass to Gen Con to compete in the Doomlings National Championship FINALS in 2027. The Doomlings 2027 National Championship winner will receive: a trophy, a $250 Doomlings store credit, AND a super special 1/1 holofoil grand prize! We will be sharing more info about the upcoming qualifying tournaments closer to each convention's date. Keep an eye on our social media accounts and this blog post for more updates! Frequently Asked Questions: How do I enter?This is determined individually at each hosting convention, based on how they handle their events. Some conventions only have in-person sign-up forms, some use an app or website, and others use physical or electronic ticketing systems. If there are leftover spots for the qualifying tournaments, there will also be physical paper sign-up sheets at each tournament for last-minute sign-ups. Please visit the convention’s website or ask a convention rep for more information! Links for each conventions’ website can be found above in the qualifying tournaments list. Are the tournaments only in the United States?For now, yes, the Doomlings National Championship is being held at U.S. locations only. We hope to expand abroad in the future. However, you do not need to be a U.S. citizen to participate! Anybody from anywhere can participate, as long as you attend the convention where a qualifying tournament is being held. Be aware that if you win a qualifying tournament, that hotel and travel to the Gen Con finals will not be covered. Are there any age restrictions?No. Doomlings is recommended for ages 10 and up, but anyone of any age can enter a tournament! Is there an entry fee?You will need to buy a badge to attend the convention on the day a qualifying tournament is being held. Other than that, Doomlings National Championship events are free at every convention, except at Gen Con: which charges a $2 fee. Do I need to bring anything to the qualifying tournaments?All you need to bring is your convention pass, and a form of identification. We will provide everything you need to play the game. Will there be Doomlings expansions included in the tournaments?All tournaments, including the final National Championship tournament at Gen Con, will be played ONLY with the base Doomlings game. There will be no additional expansions added. What is the format for the qualifying tournaments/Gen Con finals?Each tournament will consist of two preliminary rounds in which all participants play. The winners of the preliminary rounds will then advance to elimination play, down to the final player. Can one person attend multiple qualifying tournaments?Yes. But they can only qualify once (in other words, they can't win a second Gen Con badge for a companion). Is there a minimum number of players that must participate in the qualifier?At least 8 players must participate in the first round of a qualifier, for the champion to be able to win a free badge to Gen Con 2027. Is there a qualifier at Gen Con?Yes! There will be two preliminary rounds held immediately before the Championships at Gen Con. More info to come! I won one of the qualifiers, do I have to sign up for the Championship on Gen Con's event portal?No! You do not need to sign up. We have your name on a list and you will have a spot saved for you! When is the Championship at Gen Con?The final Championship rounds at Gen Con will be held directly after the qualifiers at Gen Con 2027 - which runs August 5th to 8th. The event normally runs from 6pm to 10pm EST. If you won a qualifier at a different convention, you do NOT have to sign up for this event. More info for this will be shared at a later date. Who is judging the tournaments?Convention and event staff will be judging the tournaments. How long will the tournaments last?Each tournament will be about four hours long, from start to final winner. Is travel and hotel to Gen Con covered if I win a qualifying tournament?No, travel and hotel stays are not included. However, winners of the qualifying tournaments will win a four-day pass to Gen Con. What is Gen Con?For over 55 years Gen Con has been the largest and longest-running gaming convention in North America. Founded in 1967 by Dungeons and Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax, Gen Con now attracts tens of thousands of attendees from around the world to Indianapolis for “The Best Four Days in Gaming”. When and where is Gen Con?Gen Con is from August 5th to the 8th, 2027. It is held at the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Now is your chance to see it in the game and win awesome prizes! The 1st place artist will receive a $150 Doomlings store credit and best of all...their design will become a REAL Doomlings card! 2nd place will receive a $100 Doomlings store credit, and 3rd place will receive a $50 Doomlings store credit.⁠ But wait... there's more! So the concept is the most important thing: even if you’re not a great artist, it's not all about technical execution, it’s mostly about the idea! We highly encourage you to draw your own Doomling (versus using AI). This is a company founded by someone who, at the time, didn’t know how to draw - your Doomling can be simple! It all started with balls with eyes! Card designs of an R-rated nature will not be considered. Doomlings is a family-friendly game, so keep that in mind with your design. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Can I design an age or catastrophe card?No. This contest is for a trait card design only. Ages and catastrophes will not be considered. However, we may hold another competition for ages and catastrophes in the future, so keep your good ideas in mind! Can I enter more than once?No. Because of the overwhelming (and exciting!) amount of interest, we are only allowing ONE card design per person. If you design more than one, we will only count the first design that you enter. I can't draw :( but I have an amazing idea, what do I do?You should go ahead and give it a shot anyways. I'm sure your drawing will come out great! Either way - the final card will be redrawn by an official Doomlings artist before it is released. So there is no need to worry! Can I use AI for the artwork?Yes. AI art won’t be disqualified, but, we will heavily favor non-ai submissions when judging. If you submit an AI piece, the odds of it winning will be less than an actual designed/drawn piece. We highly encourage you to draw your own Doomling instead of using AI. Why are you allowing AI artwork?For the first Create-a-Card competition in 2024, we did not allow AI artwork. It has been two years since then - and AI engines have become ever prevalent and some of our fans really enjoy using them. To be frank - it sometimes is hard to tell what is AI and what isn't now-a-days! So, to avoid accidentally disqualifying anyones artwork that isn't AI, we are allowing it this time. How will you know if my artwork is AI or not?Most of the time, there are a lot of stylistic clues that give away if you have used AI. If you are nervous about us thinking your artwork was made by an AI engine, simply record a video of you drawing and designing it (whether in real life, or as a screen recording) and share that alongside your submission! My Instagram account is private, can I still enter?Yes! Please share a screenshot of your entry by either DMing us on Instagram, or sending it to info@doomlings.com to be entered to win. Do I need to add an effect and point value?No, it is not required. However, if you have a fun idea - feel free to add it! Just be aware that the effect and point value may change completely once the card is released. (We will need to carefully play-test the final card to make sure it doesn't break the game!) Can I design a Dinoling, Mythling, or Techling?Yes! Feel free to draw inspiration from any previous expansions.
